Definately recommend for a small, grade school (Primary) child. My child loves this and uses it regularly.
Granted it did come with two carts, but I'm not a big fan of having to buy carts to play keep their interest. I did not realize from the description that it took extra cartridges to do different games. That is my biggest complaint. I must say- if it were not for the fact that my daughter specifically asked for this I would never have bought this. But it's cute and it keeps her occupied.
The screen is really small and has no backlight on the screen and the images still black and white. My 4 1/2 year old daughter asked for this laptop for Christmas and she really likes it, however, she did not loved it.
What I was glad to see was that she was able to figure out most of the activities on her own. The pink color personalizes it for her and keeps her little brother's hands off of it. It comes with a mouse pad for the mouse and activity cartridges. I gave this to my niece for Christmas last year. I will be looking for more cartridges as she ages (she's four) and I expect she'll have this laptop for a while. She loves trying to mess with mine, so when I saw this (at this price) and all it had to offer, I knew I had to get it. She originally had a Leapfrog laptop that she was getting too old for. I'm glad I did b/c she has been inseparable from it.
I also think it is very educational, and she has fun learning, so I am very pleased with my purchase. My daughter LOVES this laptop. She takes it EVERYWHERE.
